Life's dilemma is hot topic of coffee break
BAFTA-award winning actor and playwright Stuart Brennan is swapping the boxing ring for the world of middle-aged gossip, friendship and a very Shakespearean dilemma. In fact, it is the time-honoured question of 'To be or not to be?' – posed by Hamlet in the Bard's great tragedy – that provides the starting point for Stuart's latest offering, Coffee Mornings.
The comedy, which will debut in London later this month, arrives at Stoke-on-Trent Repertory Theatre on Thursday, August 16. It is staged by Theatre Giant – a professional company led by Stuart and Stoke-on-Trent-born director, writer and producer Peter Snee.
The 25-year-old says: "It follows two women who decide to take the opposing views of Hamlet's question, 'To be or not to be'." One of them decides to live with her lot and deal with the hand she's been given." The other decides to fight against the world for a better life."
It basically follows their journey to discover which is the better option. Should you put up with the things you're not happy with or should you be prepared to try to make things better?"
The play stars Kaye Quinley as Jane, Taryn Kay as Sarah and Ian Curran as the love interest. "Jane, who decides to fight for a better life, meets someone – an unsuspecting postman – so there's a bit of love interest too,"
